A Very Haute Verte Couture Earth Day

Can you guess which of these items is NOT Eco-friendly? I’ll make it simple. Nothing! Yes, this Earth Day, 40 years after it’s inception there is enough of a wide range of products (clothes, bags, shoes, body care, etc.) that you can truly discover your own inner eco-diva. The last 10 years of sustainable fashion have made terrific strides in designer partnerships with sustainable manufacturing. This has yielded a wide range of possibilities that enable your closet to be as green as your beliefs. However, there are still many more strides to make in the next 40 years.

First and foremost, within the realm of the Chambre de commerce et d’industrie de Paris, or the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture there has been no mention of Sustainable practices. What this means to the proponents of environmentally sustainable Haute Couture is that currently, this concept does not exist. Today, on Earth Day, I invite you to celebrate the importance of Eco Fashion in some small way. One day soon, I hope to report that designers who are making strides not only in the high art of clothing design, but at the same time in the promoting sustainable fashion and dress. This is a tall order, and would require a complete overhaul of the system of fashion, but it wouldn’t be the first time that an unthinkable idea took flight.

Happy Earth Day everyone!
